KITTY PARSONS

Kitty ParsonsRockport’s KITTY PARSONS’ interest in the local lore of Gloucester and Cape Ann inspired her sixteen page booklet, Dogtown Common.  Buccaneer Ballads (1944) and Gloucester Sea Ballads (1946) followed, both illustrated by her husband, sculptor Richard Recchia. Later in her career, she turned to light verse, publishing Down to Earth in 1964. In Dogtown Common, Parsons provides thumbnail sketches of many Dogtown residents and concludes that knowing about their lives enriches the experience of visiting Dogtown.
