Francis Blessington

Francis BlessingtonFRANCIS BLESSINGTON (1942 - ) is a poet, fiction writer, literary critic, translator, and a professor of English at Northeastern University. He became fascinated by Dogtown after hiking through it. The geological history of Dogtown’s glacial moraine as well as the “ghost town” inspired him to write three poems as well as a novel, The Last Witch of Dogtown, which is about the settlement’s last days (Curious Traveler Press, Gloucester 2001). In “Paper Like Snow”, a mystical encounter takes place at Whale’s Jaw in Dogtown. “Afloat in Dogtown Moraine” is inspired by the rocks of Dogtown and Roger Babson’s inscriptions upon them, and “Dogtown (1719 – 1830)” captures the poet’s thoughts and observations as he walks through Dogtown in winter,
