Herbert Kenny
HERBERT KENNY (1913 – 2002) was a revered literary presence on Cape Ann for many decades. A resident of Manchester-By-the Sea, his long career at The Boston Globe included editing the paper’s book section, writing a weekly column on books, and founding The Boston Globe Book Festival. Kenny was the author of thirteen books, including three volumes of poetry, Cape Ann: Cape America (Gloucester: Curious Traveler Press 1971), a regional guidebook, and his first novel, Paddy Madigan: An Irish Idyll which he published in 1999 at age 86. “At a Gloucester Memorial” shows the poet’s imagination at work during a visit to the Fishermen’s Memorial.
